Posters Art, the art of Daniel Gueorguiev

This week's talented featured artist is from Bulgaria. Enjoy. . .

Daniel was born in Sofia, Bulgaria.

"My passion is and always has been classic cars" his first words.

Back in Bulgaria he started working on retro cars when he was 15. He always liked the feeling of mystery and romance that came with each vehicle.

He moved to Arizona, USA when he was 25 and he discovered the “rust free car paradise”.
But somehow restoration wasn’t enough anymore.

"I wanted to create my own project" he explains.

Daniel started his Baroque Angel project which was inspired by 1936 BMW 328. He first built the plaster model in 1:1 scale, then he molded it and successfully produced a body shell. The project was completed and the design was patented. (See photos below)

Chasing classics in Arizona desert involved him in the beauty of photography - that is his other field of interest.

Using pictures for reference he creates his digital art. Going forward he is looking to be doing Custom photo and art sessions.

You can see some of his work here.

He is also on Facebook, so you can follow his progress on his page here.

Below you can enjoy some of Daniel's work. Always respect copyright.

The art of Werner Pitzer

Written by Werner Pitzer

“From childhood on I accompany two passions in my life : working with the pen and the desire for great cars”.
Since the mid- 80s, I combine both passions into a hobby : “I draw cars on canvases”.
Abstract Art, I am far from it, I live rather the “auto mobile photo realism” as the Opel magazine has aptly described in an issue of my art .
If the viewer only at second glance noticed that it is in the picture is a painting that I have achieved my goal.
To my favourite motifs include ordinary cars, motorcycles or vintage , which I usually draw to order.
The graphic reproduction of historic racing scene is also one of my bandwidth.
Since I am a self-taught and have never attended a drawing course, my techniques are rather unconventional. I draw with oil pastels , coloured pencils on canvas, but also use for the background of an ordinary brush, airbrush gun or a commercially available toothbrush. (secret) . Often there are techniques that I develop myself. A self-taught precisely !!!
I get my inspiration on tracks such as the Nürburgring , vintage fairs and exhibitions in the near of my home town Osnabrück (Germany) that I visit with my own classic cars.
I am often invited by the organizers to exhibit my pictures, where I also like to take this chance to paint “live” in public.
In circles of vintage car lovers , Therefore they called me often ” The Plate – Picasso ” .
I look forward to welcome you to one of my exhibition stands soon. The ” Plate Picasso ” welcomes you.

Gerard Prieto Art

Gerard Prieto was born and raised in a small town not far away from Barcelona, nowadays he’s studing engineering in industrial design at Vilanova i la Geltru UPC campus, he love to draw cars because it’s the perfect way to put together three of his passions: music, motorsport and drawing.

He has been drawing cars since he was able handle a pencil, but it all started the day his father illustrated to him the way to draw cars in perspective, from then on he’s been drawing.

He is pretty much self taught as he has not attended art school or academy. The only person who has ever shown him something about drawing cars has been his father. The rest it’s a lot of boxes full of unfinished drawings, 95% of them, cars!

He loves to try new ways to draw and paint, and he tried lots of techniques. At this moment in time he feels that he does best with markers and colouring pencil.

His is in love with European cars from the 70’s and the 80’s, and he really like Japanese cars from the 90’s (he own a 96’ Honda civic, and he loves to get into it and drive wherever the road takes him).
“I’m really proud of my works, I know I make some mistakes, but that’s a part of the game, I think that if you want to improve in something you have to take it easy and go step by step, then you look behind and when you compare your old works with the new ones you can see the improvement in all those years” commented Gerard.

You can find out more about Gerard and follow him and his work on Facebook here.

Art by Nastya Ivanova

Today we have an artist from Belarus, now living in St Petersburg. Anastasiya (Nastya) Ivanova was born in Vitebsk, Belarus and grew up there.

She discovered her interest in drawing when she was Seventeen, but it wasn’t cars then! She studied shoe design as well as drawing and design at university.

“As for car drawing, I was attracted to it rather recently.” comments Nastya.

“In 2008 in St. Petersburg I met with the local club of fans of Italian cars A.L.F.I.N.A., and that changed my “artistic life” forever. In 2009 I made my first drawing, Alfa 8C Competizione” she explains.

Within a few years of cooperation she, together with the club have released two club calendars with reproductions of her works. She gets her inspiration from Alfa Romeo, as you will see from her images below, and the ideas of her works are inspired by magazines, photos and videos on the Internet, movies, scale models, or with what she sees on the streets.

She started by using coloured pencils, but now she mostly use acrylic colours. “I like to learn and try different techniques and materials, and my desire is to be as realistic as possible, which reflects in my works” explains Nastya.

Auto art by Mike Ahrens

This week we have another treat for you in the form of Mike Ahrens from Germany. Enjoy . . .

Mike was born in Braunschweig / Germany in 1964 and is the son of racing legend and former Porsche factory driver Kurt Ahrens.
It was only at the age of 40 that he discovered the fascination of Motorsport when his father started to attend Classic Motor Racing events and Revivals again.
Mike then competed in minor racing series but ended his racing activities after the 2013 Renault Clio Cup Bohemia Championship.
As a teenager, he dealt with the first home computers and soon learned how to be creative on the digital highway. He doesn't have special training in these areas but has a personal view on things.
For his computer artwork, he mainly uses his own photographs shot at various occasions. Mike works completely digital and does not use real brushes or paint. His working techniques however, have changed over the last few months.
To put it in his words, "It's a journey and I'm still looking for a consistent characteristic in my pictures. I still try out a lot of things!"
Last year, his photographs from nature were printed in advertising leaflets by Panasonic Lumix Germany.
As from 2017, Mike started to use professional cameras and his artistic work on Motorsport motives came in 2018.
Mike can be found on many social media platforms. He uses print on demand websites like Redbubble though it's only on request that he puts his Motorsport artwork there.
Mike concluded: "I get motivation through likes and sharing my posts on the social media platforms. Today, the internet makes it so much easier to find people with the same interests“.
Your can check his website on THIS LINK.
Also, you can keep up with his work and news on his Facebook page here and Instagram here.

Paul Oz

“Around 10 years ago when browsing galleries for something bright to adorn the walls of a plain white new build flat and saying ‘I could do that….’ has turned out to be a seminal Oz moment”. Paul Oz
Official licensed artist to James Hunt, Bruce Lee, Star Trek, Denis the Menace, Ali, Mr Men and Little Miss, Thunderbirds and many others is our featured artist today.
Paul has created commissioned work for Sir Alex Ferguson, Theo Paphitis, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Roger De Haan, Red Bull, Pirelli, Marussia F1, Jake Humphrey, Wretch32, JLS’s Aston, BBC Comeidian Chris Ramsey, Eastenders Adam Woodyatt and Corries Katherine Kelly. Partnered with leading rights holders and motorsport teams worldwide Featured at the GP Ball, Monaco GP, Singapore GP, Playboy Club London, Selfridges Oxford St, Harrods, Goodwood Festival of Speed ITV4 show… and galleries worldwide
Patron to Its In The Bag (Testicular Cancer Awareness) and regular fundraiser for Clic Sargent and GOSH
The ensuing experiments with a 4 pack of acrylics, and quickly rediscovered skill of making a subjectively attractive looking mess, has for sure been a turning point. Painting at weekends as a break from software brand development, his first solo show was in 2008, and he thought he was balancing things pretty well.
However…. since focusing on painting full time early 2009, its all gone a little nuts….
“I was alright at school if I remember correctly” commented Paul. However he was persuaded to follow a more academic route. As it panned out, that meant that 15 years later when he started throwing paint around the initially spotless kitchen, that he could practice, learn and develop his style unpressured – to gradually build up to the sole focus it’s become now, of being his passion and livelihood all in one.
“I’m perhaps not a textbook artist – my entire aim is for visual impact, to capture characters in a unique way that blows your socks off and to illicit a response something along the lines of ‘woooohhhhaaa!’.” explains Paul. “The beauty of creating portraits is that each one could mean absolutely everything or nothing at all to you….. but everyone has an idol, mentor, someone they’re a massive fan of or indeed love… its an absolute honour to be asked to immortalise them all in paint.”

The art of Paulo Fiotti

Paulo Henrique Souza was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais state, in Brazil. Belo Horizonte is a very big city surrounded by mountains and, ironically, with no race track.
Since he was a child his father took him to some races in the streets of the city and he was hooked. “The passion for those cars, and noises, begun” explains Paulo.
He started to draw and paint the icons of the 60s from an early age. He attended university and studied Physics, but the passion for the arts made him change and he started at the Fine Arts School at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in 1981. He then started to work as an illustrator in promotions and publicity companies. Many years went passed and he continued with photography as well as restoration work, but his heart was elsewhere. Race cars!
“I was interesting in making models and eventually started a production of resin kits, concentrated on the cars from the 50s to 70s as I consider a very good age for the automotive race history” commented Paulo.
At 49 he went back to studying and sat all his tests again and passed and graduated. His main subject in the course were the cars. He worked in oil and watercolour. Although he was familiar with watercolours, he had no experience with oil painting. This was soon accomplished and he graduated after four years. He also gathered new experiences with engraving as well as painting.
He now lives in the countryside and continues to work with scale models as well as watercolours of race cars.
“I am building a good atelier to get some oil and acrylic paintings about the region and sure, the race cars” commented Paulo.
To his friends he is known as Fiotti. This name came about during his time at Motorcycle races as well as mountaineering.
More about him here.
You can follow him on Facebook here or contact him for more information here; paulofiote@gmail.com.
Meanwhile, he has kindly sent us the images below for you to enjoy and get a taste of his passion and excellent work.

G Gambarara Auto artwork

Today we have another treat for you from Belgium. Born in 1951 in Belgium , Gregory has lived in Normandy, France since 1982.

“When I was nine years old, I discovered a passion for design and racing cars through the comic books of Michel Vaillant by Jean Graton” Comments Gregory .
Drawings after drawings, due to his strength and perseverance, he became a car designer entering Heuliez France Design in 1983.

In 1985, he joined the Renault Design and stayed there until 1999 to continue alone as a freelance designer .
“My first “artistic drawings” date from the end of 1985″ shares Gregory.

He is very passionate about Porsche, he started with a 959, and then 956 and 962. Through a friend , he had the opportunity to meet the manager of the Sonauto communication, who was at the time, the French Porsche importer.

This meeting allowed him to exhibit his paintings on the Porsche stand at the Auto Show in Paris 1986. “That is the reason why I have drawn so much Porsche in that period.” explains our featured artist today.

Graeme Bint

Today we have the pleasure of featuring Graeme Bint. His images do represent the beauty of the shapes we don’t always see in cars.

Why do they look better in his images than when see them with our own eyes?

This is the artist’s eye in the photographer which shows you how amazing things can look if you were to look at them in the right way. Not forgetting a little bit of fairy dust as you will find out below.

Here is his story,

Born in Reading, UK, in 1966 Graeme had an interest in photography from when he was very young. He had a cheap SLR camera and would spend his pocket money buying film.

“I loved to push the limits of the camera learning things like double exposure by winding back the film etc” Graeme comments.

After travelling the world in various jobs, he settled in Cairns, Australia 11 years ago where he took his first professional photography job as an underwater photographer there on the reef.

“I love everything retro: trains, planes and automobiles! And I have a massive respect for the people who put their time, dollars and passion into restoring or keeping these works of art alive! My job is to document them with photography in all their glory so the truly will last forever.”

Having discovered HDRi photography, he realised it was made for all things retro and developed a method of using HDRi and multi image layered photographs, to push boundaries once again.

You can read more on this feature and see some of Greme's images here.

Jim McDonnel "Blue Angel"

Jim McDonnel is our featured artist this week. He is a self taught artist starting young on the Etch-A- Sketch.
Over the years he has worked with acrylic paintings, airbrush, and pen and ink. He is now mainly working with pencil.
In 2008 he began battling cancer and during his recovery, his wife suggested that they set up a spare bedroom as his studio space. “This is probably the one thing that has helped me improve my work…..having my own space” Jim explains.
This first piece of art is in pencil and is the modern Triumph engine. “I worked very hard to get the chrome correct with all the reflections. The light is shining through on the jugs from the backside. I have probably 20 hours of drawing in this and it hangs in the home of the owner of the motorcycle in California” writes Jim.
The second piece is of the Brough Superior motorcycle. “I just wanted to draw something that shows all the exposed mechanical workings of the machine” he explains.
Jim works and helps with Wheelers for the Wounded, which is a grassroots organization that began in Florida with Texas chapter starting 5 years ago. The San Antonio area 4 wheel drive enthusiasts started the event and it has steadily grown. They take tour buses to the hospital/rehabilitation centres at Fort Hood in Killeen as well as Brooks Army Medical Centre in San Antonio and pick up the wounded soldiers and their families that want to come along. The buses make their way to Hidden Falls Adventure Park near Marble Falls, Texas. There, they have a full day of off-roading, music, great food and give these heroes a chance to have a day away from the hospitals and rehab. “We have actually had several return and they bought Jeeps to take other wounded out on the trails” commented Jim.
There is absolutely NO cost to the wounded or their families. A lot of times older veterans from Korea, Viet Nam, and even a couple from WWII are in attendance. The Military Order of the Purple Heart work closely with them to put on a quality event.
They also take many amputees in their rigs out on the trails, sometimes they have to have a nurse along. Many have wounds that cannot be seen such as PTSD and depression. “By the end of the day…..we all have huge smiles and make many amazing new friends. It is a life changing thing to be involved in” commented Jim.
From the sale of limited edition signed prints, he is able to contribute in a small way to this important organization. 100% of sales goes towards WFTW.

More information can be found as well as video and pictures at http://www.wftw-tx.org/

News update

This from Jim;

"We lost our home and everything we owned to Hurricane Harvey floods in 2017. I lost 40 years of drawings, art, my studio and my supplies."

"We lost our home and all our belongings but are safe and together as a family. That flood ripped my heart out and I hadn't picked up a pencil since. My granddaughters art was also lost. I wasn't sure if I was ever going to draw again. Finally got settled and decided to start drawing again. Decided to start with a series of vintage motorcycles."
