Autoart by Anth Knight

This week, we have a talented artist and a petrol head form the UK.

Anth has been a petrolhead since the day that his Uncle Don let him steer his Marina while he drove – at the age of five! Uncle Don also gave Anth his passion for Mk1 Cavaliers which has seen him own three so far. He discovered a love of art a couple of years previous to this, and when he put the two together he found his direction.

Anth painted and drew until his teens when college and life in general took over, occasionally picking a brush up for the next two decades but showing no real desire to start painting again in earnest. This changed in 2009 when, for no particular reason, he bought some oils and a canvas. Not wanting to be known as a one-trick pony, he painted a lighthouse (in Plymouth, ironically enough) and was hooked.

Over the next few years he painted a wide range of subjects, but cars were always his first love. In 2017 he decided to, at long last, focus on automotive subjects, and Wheels on Canvas was born.

His work is considered photorealist, although he doesn’t feel that he has quite reached this level yet. He tends to work large-scale to accommodate the level of detail and surface texture that he loves, and has spent up to six months on an individual painting.

He also has a love of decay and abandonment – the scrapyard paintings that he has created will eventually become a series as he has taken many reference photographs over the years, and also been sent many others by friends who appreciate his work.

Anth is available for commissions through Wheels on Canvas and also sells prints of his work.

His blog and recent work can be found on this link.
