The art of Joel Clark

Another great artist from the UK this week.

Joel Clark was born in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire in 1974.

Since graduating from Central St. Martins in 1996, he has been working within the creative industries, mainly as a Creative in advertising.

This enabled him to work in London, Melbourne and Dublin, before returning to London, where, in the depths of recession he found himself with the opportunity to pick up a paint brush again and get painting!

Seven years on and while still freelancing as a Creative Director, he finally decided to work full time on his passion, Art.

"Working in the very medium I used in my first job, at a sign company based at Silverstone circuit, where I used to hand cut vinyl stickers for local race teams, I now create automotive art and vinyl collage sculptures", Joel explains.

Amazingly, these are the skills he learnt in the 1990's. This unique medium enables his work to have many qualities that aren't usually seen together. A mix of bold, graphic colours with a hand-crafted finish. This creates a hyper-realism Pop Art style that transforms real objects (vehicle parts) into pieces that become surreal. Also it gives the 2D car art a finish exactly that of the car he is depicting.

"To my knowledge; I am the only artist in the world working with this unique medium and method, resulting in totally unique and original pieces of art" concluded Joel.

Well, I for one, certainly like his work and find it inspiring and different and in my opinion highly collectible.

Loic Tronquoy Art

Loic was born in France in July 1975. He is a self taught artist with his interest developing when he was just 8 years old.
“I have memory of a poster hanging on the wall at the school that amused me while I copied it again”. mentioned Loic.
In his teenage years he became interested in the formula One races with with Prost and Senna, as well as rallying over the years with Colin McRae, amongst others.
“Regarding the design, I was drawing cars that I would modify to invent new models, with time I specialized in hyperrealism with a felt mixed media, pencil and gouache”, explains Loic.
He has visits events and races occasionally mainly in and around France, Belgium and Germany. Events such as the Monaco Grand prix, Zolder, Le Mans and especially several trips to the WRC at Monte Carlo. He is also interested in karting at Bercy.
Bercy is very important to him as after 17 years he had the honour of being invited to be the illustrator of ERDF MASTERS KART in Paris. This was in 2011 thanks to Mr Philippe Streiff. This allowed him to exhibit his work in the driver and VIP lounges around the circuit.

Miha Furlan Art

Another talent this week, this time from Slovenia.

Miha Furlan is a very talented 34 year old artist from a small town by the name of Ajdovscina in Slovenia.

"I 've been drawing cars for as long as he can remember. I remember times in kindergarden, when other kids were drawing boxes with two circles underneath to represent cars and i was allready doing wedge shaped cars, with plenty of detail, and looked very aerodynamic" explains Miha.

In his teen years he wasn't drawing much as he was occupied with other work. However, the passion returned when he started playing Gran Prix Legends in 1999. His love for Classic F1 cars began.

Later he discovered many new racing series previously unknown to him and so his main interest shifted toward the 60’s and 70’s sportscars

Everything from Can-am to Le Mans and other forms of endurance racing, while still retaining his love for F1 cars.

"I have no formal education in art and i mostly work with ink markers, but also use crayons, pastels and acrylic paint. My style varies from realism to semi abstract drawings" he comments.

He is available for commissions with an open mind and subject matter.

You can contact or follow Miha on Facebook here.
