William Homeier "Son of Indy"

Today we are featuring artist and motor racing fan William Homeier. Written by William;
Auto racing has been a part of my life as long as I can recall. So much so, my first dog was named, “Racer”. The month of May holds a special meaning to my sister, my brother and me: Dad drove in the Indianapolis 500. He also drove AAA and USAC midgets and sprints. AJ Foyt’s 1977 Coyote was my first attempt at painting. Why Foyt? My parents had known AJ since he was 10, and he’s known me all of my life.
My goal is simple: to “WOW” the viewer through crisp detail, intense color and the subtlety of highlights. If you love cars, appreciate the beauty, the power, the grace, the elegance of these simple yet captivating machines of personal transport, then my paintings will resonate with you. Personally, the “wet-metal” luster of cars is fascinating, wondrous.
My motorsports art is comes from the heart having grown up in the world of open wheel racing and intended to capture moments in racing, past and present, allowing viewers to relive their memories of those moments. Whether NASCAR, Indycar, F1, World of Outlaws, USAC, SCCA, Grand Prix Cycling, Parelli Gran Prix, MotoGP or the local and regional racing associations – fans, drivers, crews, or owners – you know what it is and why you love it.
The stunning sensual contours of luxury sports cars, supercars & exotics, the elegance of vintage & classics, the nostalgia of America Muscle and motorcycles. That’s Son of Indy Artworks. “Art that Moves” Hopefully, you loose your self in the subjects of these paintings, just as you would if standing by the cars themselves, to see, to feel, to hear, relive the sights, the sounds of those moments that only cars illicit. It sure is fun recreating it on canvas.
Legends of motorsports as well as “grease monkeys”, car collectors and motorsport fans own my originals. Some appreciate my connection to racing, others simply enjoy the work. Never knew I had this in me but do enjoy it. And, while I am always creating new works, it would be a joy and honor being commissioned to capture your favorite car or racing memory.

The art of Guilhem Massie

This week’s featured artist is almost the youngest we have featured. Born in France, Guilhem is just 14 years old.

A true car enthusiast he is in his final year at high school. His interest in cars started when he was really young. Around three to four years old according to him.

His father had something to do with his love for cars as he is also very interested. Guilhem discovered the automotive world by reading magazines and books his father gave him. Another source for his inspiration has been video games, Gran Turismo and Need for Speed to name a couple.

Almost everything in his life is car related. He has models, magazines, posters, video games, frequent websites and forums. Oh yes, and he draws cars!

Since he was seven or eight he has been inspired by the cars in the games and he has been drawing some of the modifications and tuning additions on paper as well as the screen.

“From what I remember my first real drawing was done when I was 11: a Jaguar E-Type with a pencil on A4 paper” explains Guilhem. “For a couple of years I kept on making pencil drawings on A4, but very irregularly, only a few a year. I improved a bit : but at the summer of 2012, car drawing became by far my favorite hobby and it became my way of life” he continues.

After discovering the French forum TuneGraph, he has been more and more inspired by the works he has come across. He started by drawing a couple of car a month, he then started using colour and around a year ago he started to use promarkers.

Mainly working on A4 Bristol and A3 paper he is drawing more and improving his technique.
He feels that his art and drawings has really changed his life. Feeling more active, observant and motivated all the time. Car drawings is the only art he seeks and he is interested in.

And a final comment to wrap things up from Guilhem,
“Drawing is the most “blossoming” activity I have ever practised, because it makes me feel productive and I love to see a finished drawing, see what it looks like, and start another one which I imagine even better. When I see all the drawings I’ve made so far I tell myself that I’ve been active, and didn’t lose my time during my high school!”

Wahyu Illustrations

Today's artist is Wahyu Widodo another one of our self taught artists. Born in 1979 he loves cars and is mainly influenced by comics. As you'll see from his work, he ha managed to combine both his passions to create something a little different.

He started to draw when he was just Ten years old. "Since my front yard was often used as an impromptu truck stop,I naturally fell in love with cars". Explains Wahyu.

He started to collect model and toy cars, which also became part of his inspiration for his art work.

"I'm not really into realistic renderings and prefer to capture the motions of a car" he added.

You will quite a different style because of his keen eye for comics. He also doesn't settle with any particular style or media. At first he started with traditional medias, such as pencils and acrylics, but then his job required him to draw digital paintings, and so he learnt photoshop.

"For me, art is about evolving, so I never settle on one style. Which is why you'll find various styles among my works".

Wahyu is currently working as a freelance artist. He mostly work on illustrations for various uses. He also does animation characters, posters for personal or corporate use.

Right now he is working on a comic series based on race cars which is why he took the job in the first place.

We wish him success with his work.
