Richard Andersen Art

This week's artist lives in New Zealand, although he was originally brought up in South Africa. This is the story of the 24 year old Richard Andersen.

"As a kid all I did in my spare time was draw cars! I must have drawn hundreds of them always dreaming of being a car designer one day" First comment from Richard.

He eventually applied and was accepted into Art College. Not a normal situation as he was only 14 years old, but his exceptional work did the job.

After 3 years there he started to grow more interested in Graphic design and started customizing cars on Photoshop in his spare time. Using his talent, he started to enter a few competitions and ended up getting known around the world.

He started work when he left college at 17. First at a copy shop as a graphic designer and then in a design studio. This is where he started designing graphics for motorbikes and cars and he learnt a lot during this time.

Throughout this time he also continued with small jobs from home as well as continuing with the design competitions. During the next three years he built up his client numbers and hasn't look back.

New Zealand was next, and after the move Richard decided to start his own company so he can do Freelance graphic design. The company, Richard Andersen Graphics, is now in its second year and according to him it hass been crazy! but really worth it.

"God has blessed me with so many awesome opportunities to work with some great people and some amazing cars!" commented Richard.

He has always tried to be different and unique in his style of work. Always pushing for something new.

He explained, "With my fine arts skills I try and add hand drawings as much as I can to my work like the t-shirt design started out as a drawing, Its so crazy every time I'm working on a cartoon car I always think back to when I was at a kid, drawing cars all day. I never knew I was going to get paid to do the exact same thing all day long!"

Richard's advice to young Artists now is "do what you are passionate about! Don't care what people say just keep pushing yourself. One day you find a way to get paid to do what you love!"

He plans for expansion and hopefully opening his own design studio in the next couple years, a place where people can grow being creative and make good designs all day!

The art of Daniel Senkerik

Born in 1975, Daniel is an artist and a graphic designer. He finished faculty of art as a sculptor, but as he was so keen on Formula One and motorsport in general, he carried on painting, as he did when he was much younger.

“Niki Lauda was the hero of my childhood, so when I met him few years ago I fullfilled one of my dreams” explained Daniel.
He started painting when he was twelve years old. His first piece was a picture of his favourite Moss-Jenkinson SLR, from Mille Miglia 55. He has kept that piece and does not show it as it has been signed by Kimi Raikkonen and Mick Doohan!
“I work with acrylics and oils and sometimes do some sculpting. At first I was only painting cars, but have since started to paint portraits of drivers too.” He commented.
Daniel seems to love all eras of motorsport; silver arrows, 50s, 60s, 70s.
He tried to capture the sense of speed within the pieces he paints, which we believe he succeeds very well.
Daniel explained that in the Czech Republic they don’t have any occasion to see great car races or meet the heroes. Because of this he moved to England for two years to be there where it happens, to see the cars, stars and heroes of his childhood.
He was very surprised at how many painters he has come across in the UK there as in Czech the automobilia was an unknown word. According to Daniel there are only a few painters work on painting cars and motorsport.
“here there is no history in our garages (it´s all about communism, they stopped importing any western cars and we didn’t have car racing on TV)” clarifies Daniel. “Now everything changes with the internet. So I decided to change it a little bit and thanks to my hobby, I could meet some great heroes of mine. (Jody Scheckter, Kimi Raikkonen,David Coulthard, Niki Lauda, Mick Doohan and others)” he continued.
Some of his pieces are owned by the best known drivers and he continues to work towards achieving his dream, which is to have his profile in Octane, or Classic and Sports car magazine and to do this as a full time job.
His work has been on show at over 30 exhibitions in recent years and can be viewed here.

Marcus Mitchell Art

Another great artist this week from Michigan, USA. Original with a different style...

Marcus has been drawing since he was very young. His love for cars drew him towards drawing cars and he hasn't stopped.

He is self taught and all his work is hand drawn then finish with marker and/or colored pencil. The drawing is still a bit of sideline as he works full time in a warehouse south of Detroit near where he lives.

"Would love to be able to use my art to support my family" explained Marcus.

Marcus is one of the artists who are bringing back CARtoons magazine, and he'll be featured in one of the early issues once they are out, so keep a look out for them.

The trial issue of the magazine should be out within the next few weeks and then the bi monthly regular issues start in January. If you are interested can go to get subscriptions or stickers at the website which is www.cartoonsmag.com

The other love in his life is his lovely fiance who he intends to marry in September in Toldeo, Ohio.

Marcus takes commissions, so best contact him direct if you have something in mind.

Vincent Venegas

Another great artist featured this week from the USA...

From Racine, Wisconsin, Vincent Venegas is a self taught artist which we have the pleasure of writing about today. He can't remember exactly when he started drawing, but he recons it was a long time ago. Painting is a different matter as he clearly recalls starting to paint in his late twenties.

"Originally when I picked up a brush I used acrylic paint but since have switched to primarily watercolors", Vincent explained. "I like to work fast and watercolors allow me to do this. Of course I still go back to pencils and occasional markers", he continued.

He is fascinated with the speed and movement of the cars so he tries to portray this in his art. You will probably never see flowers painted by him.

His technique involves a lot of paint loaded on the brush and then he really goes to town. Probably not the most traditional watercolor method but it works for him. In a lot of his larger paintings he uses acrylic paint in the backgrounds. "I love big bold colors so I try to avoid doing washes. I love to use a pallet knife whenever I can and just glob the paint on and have fun with it. Not worrying about being too perfect or neat" he commented.

His passion for cars and in particular motorsport began when he was a child and his dad would take him to Road America and the Milwaukee Mile. As a child he loved art and would naturally draw the heroes he would watch on the race track. As an adult he drifted away from drawing but decided to go back to school to obtain his degree in Graphic Design from the University of Wisconsin Parkside.

He began taking art classes and this reignited his passion for art and naturally he began to combine that with his love of motorsport. He was still hesitant to put his work out there and he began using social media to show his work and have since gained a following and have begun selling his art.

He won a helmet contest to design Graham Rahal’s helmet and then the next year won the contest a second year in a row. That gave him the confidence to donate a couple of paintings to Ryan Hunter-Reay’s charity Racing for Cancer where these paintings were auctioned off at one of the premiere events The Yellow Party before the Indianapolis 500.

He has done a few local shows in the community which he lives even winning a couple. He is not sure that he will ever be able to create art as a full time gig but for right now he is just enjoying painting and really hope people get some enjoyment from his work too.

Well, we certainly like what we have seen from Vincent and are sure he has every potential to make this a full time career.
